According to the American Justice Department 1 out of 4 children are bullied daily. In our San Diego community 90%
of the children attending inner-city schools ages 10 and 11
reported they have experienced some form of bullying.
Our team developed a four phase anti-bullying program: First phase: Teach fifth graders anti-bullying awareness education through workshops conducted in English and Spanish targeting bilingual audiences.
Second phase: Empower fifth graders to teach anti-bullying workshops geared to first grade audiences. Students who demonstrate anti-bullying awareness are awarded Peacemaker Certificates. Third phase: For prevention efforts our team applied business concepts and produced glow in the dark wristbands and t-shirts labeled with SIFEDONTBEABULLY.COM.
Fourth phase: The root causes of bullying are our biggest challenge. Both adults and children, who have experienced bullying, will be paired together to build a safe anti-bullying environment.
SDCC-SIFE educated over 200 elementary students attending Hamilton Elementary and King Chavez Academy about the negative effects of bullying. Also, we maintain an anti-cyber-bullying website.
PARTNERS: Hamilton Elementary, King Chavez Academy and Richard Lipinski.
